Africa-Press – South-Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) said that the Government of National Unity (GNU) should be judged on its achievements and not on the parties in it.
The ANC held an event on Monday outside their Luthuli House headquarters in Johannesburg to mark 100 days of the GNU in office.
The event was boycotted by the party’s tripartite alliance partners, the SACP and COSATU, who have criticised the ANC for creating a coalition government with what they call right-wing parties like the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front Plus.
Speaking at the event on Monday, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa said that the party was well aware it has ideological and policy differences with its GNU partners.
“Ultimately, the GNU should not be judged by the political orientation of the parties that constitute this administration but it should be judged by the impact that it will make on the lives of the poor and working people of South Africa.”
