Africa-Press – South-Africa. Newly released data indicate that issues related to government’s provision of food, water, and healthcare are the most frequently reported human rights violations in the country.

This emerged from a series of reports published on Tuesday by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), which examined government’s management of human rights matters.

The Chapter Nine institution received over 2,300 complaints in the last financial year, the majority of which concern the eThekwini and Cape Town municipalities.

Head of research, Martin Nsibirwa, said the findings revealed widespread dissatisfaction with the current provision of basic services.

“The highest number of complaints was in the area of socio-economic rights. This relates to healthcare, food, water and social security. We had the highest complaints for race-related matters.”
