Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Presidency says there’s no truth to claims that the lack of load shedding was part of a ploy to buy votes for the African National Congress (ANC) in the lead-up to the national elections.
Since the start of the year, the country has experienced unrelenting bouts of load shedding.
Eskom had previously warned that residents and businesses were in for a darker 2024 after facing the worst power cuts in 2023.
The power utility has since been accused of being manipulated by the ANC-led government to keep the lights on at all costs.
Presidential spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said that government’s interventions were beginning to yield fruit.
“The actions taken since President Ramaphosa announced the Energy Action Plan (EAP) in July 2022 have had a direct impact in reducing the severity and frequency of load shedding, which was the primary objective of the plan.”
