King Shaka International Airport evacuated after false fire alarm

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A false fire alarm set off evacuation procedures at the King Shaka International Airport on Saturday, the Airports Company of SA (ACSA) said.

The company added although it turned out to be a false alarm, it always had to follow evacuation protocol.

The procedure set off a number of appeals for information on Twitter when passengers were confused over why they were being corralled at the airport.

ACSA said there would be flight delays as a result, and passengers must call their airline directly to check whether their flight was affected.

It tweeted: “Good day, thank you for getting in touch. Kindly note it was a false fire alarm. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”

Last Sunday, flights were delayed at the same airport due to a refuelling “glitch”. In that case, they were having problems with the fuel hydrant system. Refuelling had to be done by a tanker.
