Africa-Press – South-Africa. The 56-year-old man charged with murdering a 13-year-old boy in Klawer in the Western Cape made another appearance in the Klawer Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Daniel Smit was arrested and charged with the murder of Jerobejin van Wyk in February after human remains were found in sewerage pipes at his home.
The remains were confirmed to be that of the teenager, who had gone missing days before the gruesome discovery.
Smit faces charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and failure to report the incident to the police.
Klawer murder: Alleged killer still waiting for bed at psychiatric hospital
He had previously been referred to Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital in Cape Town for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation after a psychologist highlighted that Smit needed to be properly evaluated by a psychiatrist.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said they were advised that Smit was number 93 on the waiting list and his case was postponed to July for the allocation of a bed at the hospital and further investigation.
Psychologist CWA van Zyl highlighted several points that needed to be investigated by a psychiatrist.
In a previous report, Van Zyl said Smit had been involved in Chinese occult rituals since the age of 13.
In February, Van Wyk’s body parts were found in a drain on his alleged attacker’s property.
It was alleged that the teen had been killed after stealing mangoes from Smit’s garden.
At the previous hearing, the court was informed that witness statements and DNA test results were still outstanding.
