Africa-Press – South-Africa. At least 10 have people died in the Eastern Cape as a result of the rain-induced floods.
Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister Thembi Nkadimeng are currently meeting with Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane.
They’re looking at possible interventions following deadly floods that struck the province over the past weekend.
At least 10 have people died as a result of the rain-induced floods.
Roads, bridges, homes, and businesses have been left damaged by the inclement weather.
Nkadimeng and Kubayi are in the province to assess the damage caused by the floods and to amplify the already outgoing government interventions.
This is in addition to deciding whether to declare a state of disaster for the province.
Over the past few days, the provincial department set up warehouses stocked with aid, water, and food to house and support victims and those who have been evacuated from their homes.
The ministers, along with Eastern Cape officials, will also conduct door-to-door visits at Kariega and affected parts of Gqeberha.
