Kunene Appalled by Conditions in Hijacked Joburg Buildings

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Acting Johannesburg Mayor Kenny Kunene said he was shocked by the appalling conditions inside hijacked buildings in the inner city.

Together with Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku, Kunene led raids on these properties in the CBD.

Several people suspected of being undocumented migrants were arrested, and some were found in possession of ID documents believed to be fake.

Inside one of the buildings, rooms were divided with mattresses, while bed sheets served as makeshift ceilings.

In these very same conditions, a creche operates daily, with dozens of joyful toddlers found inside.

Kunene said this was no way to live.

“We are declaring war on these illegal buildings. Those that have been hijacked but have private owners, we want them to come forward. Those that don’t have owners, we are going to expropriate them and put them in our inventory.”

The raid will continue on Wednesday.
