KZN Education Dept Confirms Full School Reopening

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Education Department in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) said that despite challenges faced in the previous school term, all schools had fully reopened.

The province saw sporadic protests at schools by both pupils and members affiliated to the teachers’ union, the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), over non-payment in line with norms and standards for school funds.

The money is used to ensure the smooth functioning of the schools.

But a number of schools in KZN struggled to pay service providers, due to a lack of funds, which led to the provincial government pledging R900 million in this regard.

Education MEC, Sipho Hlomuka, said: “All schools have revived their norms and standards, principals and SGBs now have all the resources to ensure that they put all systems in place and pay all those service providers whom we were told that they also causing problems because they were looking for their money.”
