KZN Premier Decries New Year's Eve Killing of Family

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The brutal killing of four family members in Dweshula has renewed concerns about rising violent crime in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

They were shot and killed on New Year’s Eve. It is believed the attack occurred during what is understood to be a house robbery.

The suspects are believed to have fled with only two cellphones.

It has been two days since members of the Cele family were attacked and murdered in the comfort of their home in Dweshula village, outside Port Shepstone.

While police continue to investigate the incident, the provincial government said this and other cases demonstrate that crime remains a serious concern.

KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said the incident is worrying.

“We are worried by some of the reports, like in Port Shepstone, where four members of the Cele family were gunned down. As the provincial government, we are concerned about these incidents.”

Meanwhile, police are also investigating the killing of four other people in Umlazi, south of Durban, who were murdered just hours before the Cele family attack.
