Africa-Press – South-Africa. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has praised the City of Johannesburg for taking down what he described as Solidarity’s “racist” billboard.

The minority trade union had erected the billboard along the M1 highway last week in protest against Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BB-BEE) laws.

The orange billboard read, “Welcome to South Africa, the most race-regulated country in the world.”

The sign was positioned on the route to the Nasrec Expo Centre, where the G20 Summit will be held next week.

Lesufi commended the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) for removing the billboard.

“They put a racist banner here. Government has removed that banner and we want to thank local government for removing that particular banner.”
