Africa-Press – South-Africa. Minister of Public Works Dean Macpherson said he wants to make it a priority of his to ensure that public money delivers quality infrastructure by stopping corrupt contractors from doing business with his department.

This comes after the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) blacklisted 40 contractors.

This is the largest group since 2002, when only one contractor was prohibited from providing its services to the department.

Macpherson said he plans to double down on the rot with the implementation of harsher regulations.

“Those who underperform or engage in shoddy work will be held accountable and removed from our system. The CIDB action to blacklist these contractors means we have put our words into action. This stands in stark contrast to the single company that was blacklisted previously from 2002 to 2024. That situation was completely unacceptable to me.”

Last week, ActionSA announced it was preparing to lodge a formal complaint with the Public Protector against the National Treasury over a failure to blacklist compromised companies.
