Madlanga Commission Issues Notices to Implicated Parties

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Several persons of interest implicated by KZN police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, before the Madlanga Commission have been issued notices to appear before the inquiry.

In a statement on Tuesday, the commission says it issued Rule 3 notices to several witnesses.

Rule 3 provides for the commission to invite or compel persons of interest to testify before it.

Business people, Members of Parliament (MPs), and senior police officers are among those Mkhwanazi implicated when he testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry last month.

Mkhwanazi claims alleged underworld figure, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, communicated with North West businessmen Brown Mogotsi and Suleiman Carrim in attempts to destabilise police investigations into criminal syndicates in Gauteng.

He also implicated MPs Fadiel Adams and Dianne Kohler Barnard, accusing them of making public sensitive information related to crime intelligence, which resulted in the arrest of his close ally, Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo.

While he wouldn’t mention names, Madlanga Commission spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, confirmed that several persons of interest mentioned by Mkhwanazi have been served with notices to appear as witnesses.

As part of the commission’s terms of reference, a witness can be compelled to appear before the public hearings, failing which they can be held criminally accountable.

The commission will resume on 13 October.
