Madlanga Commission Testimony Delayed Due to Hospitalization

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Controversial North West businessman Suliman Carrim will no longer testify before the Madlanga Commission this Thursday. The sudden change in schedule follows Carrim’s hospitalisation after a health incident earlier this week.

Carrim was admitted to a hospital yesterday following an undisclosed medical emergency that occurred while he was at a gym in Sandton. According to reports, he remains under medical care as of Wednesday.

Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed that Carrim’s legal team has communicated his inability to appear.

While the commission awaits formal documentation, they are already adjusting the week’s proceedings.

“We have been in touch, our two legal teams, but it is quite clear he is [not] going to be able to appear on Thursday and that’s what we are working with at the moment,” Michaels stated.

The commission expects to receive a formal medical certificate soon to finalise the postponement. Michaels emphasised that the commission is prioritising the witness’s well-being during this time.

“In terms of the formal process, once we have it in writing, the commission will then consider the (medical) certificate, but again it’s pretty evident he is not going to be able to appear if he is in hospital,” Michaels said. “In any event, the commission wouldn’t want to put him under unnecessary and undue strain. So we will await confirmation of his condition formally, but we are working on that basis.”
