Malema Urges Public to Take By-Elections Seriously

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema has urged the public to take by-elections seriously as they are at the foundation of service delivery.

Malema was back in his hometown of Seshego in Limpopo on Wednesday, where he cast his vote in the by-elections.

Residents of the Polokwane municipality’s ward 13 were voting for a new councillor.

The by-election was triggered by the expulsion of EFF councillor, Mafiwa Leballo, who failed to attend meetings.

Malema was warmly welcomed by his party’s supporters in his hometown.

Over the past couple of days, he campaigned in Seshego for the EFF’s councillor candidate.

The leader of the red berets said that keeping ward 13 under the EFF was both personal and political for him.

“We are here to encourage our people to take by-elections very seriously because the turnout around by-elections is very low and it is precisely because maybe the leadership is not fully participating when it comes to the by-elections, so I thought it was important for me to come and show the significance of by-elections and why all of us should take an active part.”
