Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 27-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death with a bottle in front of their three-year-old child will spend Christmas in custody until his court appearance next year.

Murder accused Gopolang Alfred More appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court in North West on Wednesday.

His matter was postponed to 25 March next year for further investigations.

North West National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Henry Mamothame said More’s alleged crime occurred on 18 December.

Mamothame said the accused had fetched his 26-year-old girlfriend, Mariam Makane, and their young child from her home in Mamelodi on that Sunday.

While it is unclear how Makane ended up with More, as she had a restraining order against him, the accused allegedly drove with them to a graveyard in Ga-Rankuwa, where he stabbed Makane several times, and then left her there, Mamothame said.

“Subsequent to his action, he drove to his home, allegedly with bloodied clothes, and left the child with his brother. It was alleged that More confessed to killing the mother’s child before leaving the child,” he said.

After the matter was reported to the police, More was arrested on Tuesday.
