Africa-Press – South-Africa. A Mpumalanga man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly slitting his three-year-old son’s throat after an argument with the boy’s mother.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the man grabbed the boy from the mother, ran into a shack, and slit the child’s throat.
The parents, who live in Msholozi in KwaMhlanga, are no longer in a relationship, and the woman has a protection order against the father.
Mdhluli said when the man took the child, the mother called the police. When they arrived, the father ran away, leaving the wounded child in the shack.
The child was rushed to the hospital.

The 29-year-old man was arrested at his home and was expected to appear in the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, on a charge of attempted murder.
Mdhluli said:
“This is a shameful act, allegedly committed by a father against his own flesh and blood,” said Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela.
“We are really concerned as to the kind of example we are setting for our children. Parents should never abuse children by using them as shields or weapons to fight their domestic battles. We hope the court will deal decisively with perpetrators of violence against the vulnerable groups,” Manamela added.
