Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 36-year-old man appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday after allegedly dousing his wife with flammable liquid and setting her alight.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane said Gabriel Modise suffered serious burn wounds to the face and neck and was admitted to hospital on 28 January 2022.

“She unfortunately succumbed to the injuries and passed away on 24 February 2022.”

According to Covane, the incident happened in an open area in Tielman Roos Street in Olive Hill.”We suspect that they drove there because their white Renault Clio was also set alight but not completely burned.

“The police received a report from the hospital, and a case of murder was opened at Navalsig police station. An investigation started, and the 36-year-old husband was arrested at his home in Glenmare Street, Olive Hill, near Bloemfontein,” Covane said.

The case was postponed to 14 March for a bail application.
