Man dies, several others seriously injured on KZN roads

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A man died while trying to save his child from being struck by a motor vehicle on Kenyon Howden Road in Montclair in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday afternoon.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said when paramedics arrived on the scene it was “total devastation.

“The 30-year-old father was killed after he allegedly attempted to save his child from being struck by a motor vehicle.

“Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man on the scene, however, his injuries were too severe and he was declared deceased on the scene. His child believed to be two-years-old sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that he required,” Jamieson added.

In a separate incident, four trucks and four light motor vehicles collided on the N3 highway near Mariannhill toll plaza leaving a truck driver and multiple others injured.

“One truck driver sustained serious injuries and [was] severely entrapped in his vehicle. Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in the vehicle while the Ethekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to try and free the man from the wreckage,” Jamieson added.

He said once the man was freed he was transported to a nearby Durban hospital for further treatment.

“Multiple others [that] sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for further treatment,” Jamieson added.
