Africa-Press – South-Africa. Lawyers representing Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge have questioned why high court secretary, Andiswa Mengo, could not identify the date she alleges the judge attempted to expose himself to her in his chambers.
In January this year, Mengo testified to the tribunal probing the matter that Mbenenge called her to his chambers in the court building and pointed her attention to his private area, asking if she could see the effect she had on him.
The tribunal heard that Mengo also alerted the director of court operations, Denim Kroqwana, of the alleged incident in November but failed to identify the specific date.

The judge president denied the claims, with Advocate Griffiths Madonsela also noting the alleged incident was not on the agenda for the proposed meeting.
Madonsela: “It seems to me, at that stage, when the meeting was being arranged, the issue that was at hand was these chats and the screengrabs. Not so?”
Kroqwana: “That is correct, yes.”
Madonsela: “Not so much the incident that allegedly occurred on the 14th or the 15th of November.”
Kroqwana: “The focus was on the messages, yes.”
