Africa-Press – South-Africa. Leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) Gayton McKenzie said that he won’t be taken for a ride by the African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg as the coalition in the city stalls on a decision to appoint a new transport MMC.
The position became vacant in July when Kenny Kunene resigned as a councillor and was recalled as transport MMC after he was found at the home of murder accused businessman Katiso Molefe.
Molefe is currently behind bars for allegedly orchestrating the murder of artist Oupa Sefoka, commonly known as DJ Sumbody.
The PA’s new recruit, 24-year-old Liam Jacobs, was the party’s first preference to replace Kunene, but it’s understood the ANC and other coalition partners didn’t agree.
EWN previously reported that they believe Jacobs is too inexperienced to debut in the city with a big portfolio like transport
In a regular briefing to party supporters on Sunday night, McKenzie announced he would make a decision on the matter on Monday.
“Now all of a sudden, the ANC is playing games with us – now we must take something else; the EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters] wants our position. Tomorrow [Monday], we will tell you the decision the PA will take, but we can’t say, ‘ons baiza nie’, then baiza ons, so just know tomorrow evening you will know which decision the PA is taking.”
