Africa-Press – South-Africa. Five years after a house robbery and the harrowing murder of KwaZulu-Natal agricultural financial consultant Peter Scott, the killers have finally been sentenced.
Bethwell Sifiso Mthembu, 31, was sentenced in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg to life imprisonment for murder, five years for housebreaking with intent to rob, 15 years for robbery, and eight years for unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
His co-accused, Bhekizizwe Bheki Mchunu was sentenced to 12 years in prison for housebreaking with intent to rob, 15 years for robbery and 30 years for murder.
A third accused, Moses Mthembu, died during the course of the trial.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Kara said that in sentencing Mchunu, the court did not impose a life sentence because it took into consideration “that he had spent four years in prison awaiting trial”.

“The court ordered that his sentences for robbery and housebreaking run concurrently with the 30 years for murder, thus resulting in an effective sentence of 30 years imprisonment.”
In September 2018, Scott and his wife Pamela were on his farm on the outskirts of Creighton when the men entered their home and shot Scott dead.
They were armed with knives and a firearm.
Pamela was bound before the men ransacked the house, taking laptops, money and cellphones.
They were arrested when police followed up on leads.
In court, State advocate Roan Du Preez handed in a victim impact statement which revealed that the family, the Scotts’ friends and the community were “physically and emotionally traumatised” by the incident.
