Africa-Press – South-Africa. Court proceedings on Thursday put a spotlight on two of the co-accused Ziyaad Poole and Toufeek Brown in the matter against Modack and 14 others.
The cross-examination of the State’s first witness, a self-confessed hitman, continued in the gang trial of alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack on Thursday.
The witness who can only be identified as Mr A claims Modack hired him to murder former Hawks officer Nicolaas Heerschap, tow truck driver Richard Joseph and defence attorney William Booth.
Court proceedings on Thursday put a spotlight on two of the co-accused Ziyaad Poole and Toufeek Brown in the matter against Modack and 14 others.
In his testimony, Mr A told the court Poole and Brown acted on behalf of Modack to recruit him as a hitman in 2019.
Mr A says Brown told him a “big boss” would reward him if he worked with them and he was then instructed to murder Heerschap.
Following the murder of Heerschap’s father in July 2019, and after an alleged meeting with Modack he says Poole then acted as a middleman for Modack instructing him to murder tow truck driver Richard Joseph and defence attorney William Booth.
Modack, Poole and Brown have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them and deny ever meeting with Mr A.
