Africa-Press – South-Africa. The mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, has arrived in Newlands, west of Johannesburg, to address the water-related protests in the surrounding areas.
Earlier on Thursday, Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni told protesting residents in Coronationville that he had personally asked Morero to come and address the concerns of residents in person.
Coronationville, Westbury, Westdene and the surrounding areas have had intermittent water supply for weeks now.
Joburg Mayor, Dada Morero has arrived in Newlands. He is currently in a closed meeting with community leaders.
The mayor and Joburg Water will address the media after the meeting.
He is now at a community hall in the west of Johannesburg, where he is meeting with community leaders first.
Westbury community leader, Melissa Davids: “We really just want water. We don’t need any more promises. We are drained and all we are asking is for the mayor to find amicable solutions with his members.”
The closed meeting will be followed by a media briefing.
He is also expected to meet with residents to provide feedback.
Roads in the area remain blocked and residents say they will stop protesting once a long-term solution is implemented.
