Africa-Press – South-Africa. The executive mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, together with Johannesburg Water, are providing an update on the recent water challenges and will also give sustainable solutions to the crisis.
Many parts of Johannesburg are experiencing protests this week, with major roads closed in many places.
Residents in Westbury and Ivory Park have been protesting over rampant water supply issues.
On Wednesday, Johannesburg Water responded to widespread protests in the city, saying its main system was constrained due to high demand and infrastructure limitations.
Morero, along with the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure services, Jack Sekwaila, and Johannesburg Waters’ Ntshaveni Mukwevho, will be providing an update on Thursday afternoon on the ongoing water challenges.
The commando system supplies the Hursthill, Brixton and Crosby Reservoirs, which provide water to areas including Westbury, Westdene and Coronationville.
Joburg Water said the water levels at all three reservoirs were critically low, adding that high-lying areas were the hardest hit.
The briefing is also expected to outline the measures being implemented to address these issues.
