Morero Masuku Face Off for ANC Joburg Chair Position

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The race for the highly sought after position of African National Congress (ANC) chairperson in Johannesburg has begun, with Dada Morero and Loyiso Masuku set to go head-to-head for the top post.

The ANC’s regional elective conference begins on Wednesday at Cedar Woods Hotel in Sandton.

Morero is seeking re-election, but faces strong competition from Masuku, who has also drawn considerable support.

The three-day conference will elect new ANC leaders who will steer the party’s Johannesburg region for the next three years.

Morero’s faction, informally known as Fire Brigade, is going up against Masuku’s faction, which is commonly referred to as Spirit.

Branch nominations show that the contest is tight, with both Morero and Masuku neck-and-neck in terms of branch support.

However, well-placed sources have told EWN that the race may be tougher than expected for Morero, as more branches are believed to have shifted their support to Masuku overnight.

For the position of secretary, incumbent Sasabona Manganye is likely to secure another term, as he is contesting against the less-supported Lebohang Tshabalala.

The deputy secretary position is shaping up to be the most hotly contested, with Nomoya Mnisi, a close ally of Morero, Thuthukile Zuma and Lerato “K” Bob all vying for the role.

The conference is scheduled to run from Wednesday through to Friday.
