Africa-Press – South-Africa. Mpumalanga farmer Louis Johannes Grobler has denied purposefully knocking two children with his car last week.

Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Monica Nyuswa told News24 on Friday that Grobler said in his statement that the children “appeared out of nowhere”, and that he had accidentally knocked them over when he lost control of his car.

Grobler appeared at the Ermelo Magistrate’s court for the second time for a bail application on Friday.

The matter was postponed to Tuesday for judgment.

He remained in police custody, said Nyuswa.

Farmer arrested after allegedly knocking over 2 children with his car and assaulting a third

Grobler was arrested on Tuesday for injuring two children aged – 10 and 11 – and for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhuli previously told News24 that the incident happened on 15 July after the farmer accused the children of theft.

Nyuswa said the children had been playing with corn from Grobler’s farm when the alleged assault took place.

One of the children’s parents used to work for Grobler’s friend on the same farm. The three children and Grobler live on the same property.
