Africa-Press – South-Africa. Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said he is considering running for one of the top positions in the party’s leadership structure.
The DA is set to have a national elective congress in April, where it will be electing a new federal leadership.
While the DA has not officially given prospective candidates the greenlight to start their campaigns, background noises have already started.
Until campaign season is officially open, the DA prohibits prospective candidates from publicly revealing which federal position they want to campaign for.
Speaking to EWN this weekend, Msimanga said he is looking to step up to the party’s national leadership.
“Solly is not going to run for the leader of the party, that I can tell you without any shadow of doubt. I am being lobbied by other provinces and my own province to run for one of the senior positions – which I am considering.”
The DA’s mayoral candidate for Tshwane, Cilliers Brink, also told EWN he is seriously considering running for one of the top leadership positions.
Brink said he won’t be challenging John Steenhuisen for party leader.
Instead, he said he is looking for a position which he can also balance with being mayor of Tshwane, should the DA win the elections in the capital.
