Municipal Elections Will Be Victory or Death for EFF

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema believes the upcoming local government elections are a do-or-die for the party.

After a poor showing at the 2024 national and provincial polls, the eff is looking to recover lost ground.

South Africa is expected to witness what is likely to be the most fiercely contested municipal election in democratic history between November this year and January 2027.

Delivering the closing remarks at the party’s plenum at the birchwood hotel in Boksburg, Malema stressed the eff cannot afford a weak performance this time around.

“Victory or death” – those are the words Malema used to describe what the upcoming local government elections mean to the EFF.

Lazy party members and ineffective councillors in municipal councils are what Malema said the EFF will not tolerate ahead of this election.

He said if the party doesn’t take the upcoming municipal polls seriously, it could signal the end of the red berets.

“We have to accept that this year we have to do well or die. There comes a lot I’m your life where you say I have to survive or die. We have reached the point where we must decide that Africa must be united or die.”

Malema says the eff has reached a stage where it no longer feels compelled to form coalitions with the African National Congress (ANC) to participate in municipal government.

He added that the EFF will no longer back the election of ANC mayors unless the ANC agrees to accept an EFF candidate.
