Africa-Press – South-Africa. The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) said it’s confident its security measures will ensure a safe State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Cape Town.

As various government dignitaries and officials made their way to the city for SONA 2026, NATJOINTS deployed various safety and security units in the CBD ahead of Thursday’s event.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said NATJOINTS had drawn on experience from numerous major national events successfully hosted across the country, including previous SONAs.

Mathe said NATJOINTS held regular meetings for the operational plan to unfold accordingly.

“All roleplayers have commenced with their respective responsibilities in line with their mandate, with law enforcement agencies having mobilised the necessary resources to enhance police visibility to prevent and combat opportunistic crime before, during, and after the address.”
