No bail for man accused of raping daughter over 12-year period

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A man accused of raping his daughter over a 12-year period was denied bail when he appeared in the Galeshewe District Court in Kimberley on Monday.

The man allegedly started raping his now 21-year-old daughter when she was nine years old, said Northern Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane.

The rapes stopped this year after the young woman told a community organisation of her experience.

She was taken to the Galeshewe Thuthuzela Care Centre, and the matter was reported to the police. Her father was arrested and charged with rape, said Senokoatsane.

“During his bail application, which was opposed by the prosecution, the court heard how the victim had endured sexual abuse at the hands of her father for years and how this abuse had affected her. The court was also informed that the accused had contacted the victim and tried to persuade her to drop the charges against him,” said Senokoatsane.
