Africa-Press – South-Africa. Joburg MMC for Human Settlements, Mlungisi Mabaso, on Friday cleared up misconceptions about the process of applying for an RDP house for residents of Soweto.
He stated that applying for a government-subsidised house does not automatically guarantee an applicant will receive one.
According to Mabaso, everyone receives a C-form as an acknowledgement of the application; however, only those who earn under R3,500 per month and are South African citizens qualify.

They are accusing him of not delivering on RDP houses that he is here to discuss with the community.
“C-form does not mean that you qualify for an RDP house,” said MMC Mabaso. “There’s a verification process which looks into the qualifying criteria, looking into your economic and social circumstances.”
He added that some applicants who do not meet the criteria are still insisting on receiving houses just because they submitted a C-form.
“Some of them applied for houses when they were unemployed, but they have a C-form and now they are employed, so those people do not qualify,” Mabaso explained. “If you apply for a house and then in the next two years you are employed as a teacher, should government give you a house when you work for government?”
