Africa-Press – South-Africa. It’s probably not a good idea to fake or alter a sick note for time off from work, as a North West police officer discovered this week, at least according to allegations before the Setlagole Magistrate’s Court.
The 43-year-old North West officer ended up in court after he allegedly extended a sick note by one day in May.
Sergeant Kagiso Motlele, who is stationed at the Madibogo police station, was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone the sick note aroused his station commander’s suspicions.
“The matter was reported to the provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit for investigation, which confirmed that the accused altered the sick note and failed to report [for] duty. According to information, the medical practitioner permitted him to stay home for three days to get fit for work, but he fraudulently extended the leave by a day,” Mokgwabone said.
The officer was released on a warning and is expected to appear in the Atamelang Magistrate’s Court on 7 July.
