Africa-Press – South-Africa. North West police are searching for suspects who killed two elderly women in Manokwane village, Taung.

The women were collecting wood when they were murdered. Their bodies were found on Friday morning. Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said Mmapulana Pauline Mmusi, 80 and Merriam Kelebogile Mokgalagadi, 59, left their homes on Thursday afternoon to collect wood in a nearby field.

She said the women collected wood together each day and returned home before sunset.

“When they did not return home before dark, their families, friends and community members started looking for them, leading to the gruesome discovery,” said Myburgh.

“Both females were found dead not far from each other in the nearby field. They were both severely assaulted and sustained serious head injuries.

“They were both declared dead on the scene by emergency medical and rescue services. Police are also investigating the possibility that the victims might have been raped,” said Myburgh.

Anyone with information that could assist the police with the investigation is asked to call Warrant Officer Peace Babe on 082 443 8680 or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

“Anonymous tip-offs can be communicated via the MySAPS app on your smartphone. Information received will be treated as confidential,” said Myburgh.
