North West teen arrested after fight at Rustenburg bus rank leaves pupil dead, another injured

Africa-Press – South-Africa. North West police have arrested a teenager after a pupil was stabbed to death and another was injured during a fight between pupils from two schools in Rustenburg.

The 18-year-old Grade 10 pupil was stabbed during a fight at a Rustenburg bus rank on Friday, said police spokesperson, Captain Sam Tselanyane.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was stabbed with a sharp object in his throat,” he said.

“According to bystanders, the victim was a learner from a high school in Rustenburg, and he allegedly fought with another pupil from [another] school.”

The dispute then escalated, with both pupils bringing a group to the bus rank, where the fight occurred. The 18-year-old was certified dead at the scene.

A second pupil, aged 19, was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“The 19-year-old suspect fled the scene after the incident but was later traced and arrested. He is expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder and attempted murder,” Tselanyane said.
