Ntuli Frightened by Allegations Against Sibiya

Africa-Press – South-Africa. African National Congress (ANC) chief whip Mdumiseni Ntuli said he fears that South Africa could appoint a “national convenor of criminals” instead of a national police commissioner.

Ntuli said this was based on the evidence and submissions before the parliament police ad hoc committee implicating senior police officials like suspended Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.

The ad hoc committee, before the end of its public hearings last night, heard how Sibiya allegedly lied under oath, was irregularly appointed, and bought spying equipment illegally while working for the city of Johannesburg.

Ntuli noted the seriousness of the allegations.

“That’s what frightens me, because it suggests that if anything we’ve heard about Sibiya were to be confirmed to be true tomorrow, it therefore means that unless something drastic is done, we may wake up one day as a country having a national commissioner who is a national convenor of criminals in the country.”
