Off-duty paramedic shoots and injures gun-wielding man during accident scene argument in Durban

Africa-Press – South-Africa. An off-duty paramedic shot and injured a man on the N3 Durban-bound freeway near Brickfield Road just before midnight on Saturday.

It’s alleged that the paramedic was driving her private car when she came across an accident scene and stopped to assist.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, after the paramedic had assessed the situation, she went back to her vehicle to take out her equipment and another car bumped into her car from behind.

“Three men allegedly got out of the said vehicle and an argument erupted. One of the men allegedly drew a firearm and the paramedic also drew her privately licensed firearm and shot at the gun-wielding man,” said Netshiunda.

The man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound, while the other two men got back into the vehicle and fled from the scene.

Police have seized both firearms for further investigations.

Netshiunda said that no one has been charged as yet as investigators are still collecting more information about the incident.
