Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has withdrawn its threat that its leader, Gayton McKenzie, will leave the Government of National Unity (GNU) should Kenny Kunene not be reinstated to the city of Johannesburg’s mayoral committee by the African National Congress (ANC).
While Kunene has not yet been reinstated, the PA says its meeting with the ANC on Tuesday night was successful and dealt with issues that affect the Gauteng province and not just Kunene’s return to the city’s leadership.
Kunene addressed party supporters on Facebook on Tuesday night following the meeting.
“But I think one must emphasise that this meeting has put to bed the issue of the resignation of the president [McKenzie] or us withdrawing from coalitions. It has put it to bed.”
Without going into detail, Kunene said the ANC’s proposals made sense and would be studied before a follow-up meeting.
“We will then get back to the ANC before Friday on our response to proposals on the table. But we must emphasise the meeting went very well for Patriotic Alliance.”
