Another man, aged 63, was expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping his 18-year-old granddaughter.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said in the first case the grandmother of the 14-year-old girl was informed by the child’s school that she was not well and had been rushed to a clinic.

The girl was later referred to a hospital, where she was examined by a doctor, who confirmed her pregnancy.

“It was then learned that the girl was allegedly raped on several occasions between June and August 2022, by her uncle who resides with them.

Mdhluli said:

Mdhluli said the matter was reported to the police, and a rape case was opened.

“The suspect, 27, was traced and arrested on Saturday. He is expected to appear in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of rape,” he added.

Victim threatened

In the second case, said Mdhluli, police arrested a man for allegedly raping his 18-year-old granddaughter on multiple occasions between September 2015 and September 2022.

“It is alleged that the suspect would threaten the victim not to tell anyone, including her mother, of the atrocities she was going through.

“Eventually, the young girl broke her silence, and the matter was reported to the police. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.”

Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, “strongly condemned the atrocities that the two young girls had to endure, and painfully so because these were allegedly caused by their own flesh and blood”.

Manamela commended the police for arresting the men immediately after the cases were reported.
