Police Officer Arrested with Firearms in KZN

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Law enforcement in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) found two heavily armed men at a stop-and-search at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza in Pinetown, west of Durban, on Monday.

One of the men was identified as a police officer who is also a firearms instructor.

His passenger told officers that he was a security boss and a firearms dealer.

While they provided documentation for their firearms, police flagged an expired permit.

They were found with several pistols and a rifle with an expired permit.

KZN Transport MEC Siboniso Duma said that given the history of guns and the number of shootings recorded in the province, authorities must be firm when dealing with gun-related cases.

“In the province of KwaZulu-Natal, you the guns have caused a lot of problems, so we must be particular when it comes to the legitimacy of someone who is carrying it, and that person must be fully aware to understand that it may cause a problem.”

Both men were taken in, where authorities will decide whether to charge them or not.
