Africa-Press – South-Africa. A security guard has been shot dead at an Eastern Cape post office, allegedly by two men dressed in police uniforms.
The 45-year-old security guard was stationed at an East London post office when the two men in police uniform attempted to rob the branch, said police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana.
On Tuesday at around 10:00, the two men entered the post office in Gonubie and attempted to gain access beyond the security gate. When the security guard intervened, they opened fire, said Kinana.
“A security guard denied them access. This is when he was fatally shot. The suspects managed to steal his firearm before, fleeing the scene in a blue Suzuki S-Presso,” said Kinana.

In two cases, branch managers were abducted from their homes, driven to their branches and forced to give robbers access to cash safes.
An estimated R16 million had been stolen from the post offices in the more than 200 incidents.
Police have urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
