Pupil arrested after boy, 15, stabbed to death outside Free State school

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A Grade 6 pupil has been stabbed by a fellow pupil at a Free State school. He was transported to hospital, with the knife still in his chest, where he was declared dead.

Free State Department of Education spokesperson Howard Ndaba said the stabbing took place around 600m from Zama Primary School in Zastron on Wednesday afternoon.

“A brawl broke out between the boys [on Wednesday] morning at the school after the suspect allegedly bullied and attempted to stab the now deceased learner with a spoon,” said Ndaba.

Ndaba added:

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Peter Kareli, said a teacher transported the victim, with the “knife still stuck in his chest” to hospital.

The 15-year-old child was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

According to Kareli, residents chased and arrested the 15-year-old alleged perpetrator.

He has been taken into custody and charged with murder. He is expected to appear in the Zastron Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the education department has called on the school’s governing body to investigate the incident.
