Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Presidency has confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa has received the interim report from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating allegations of corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system.
The report will now be considered by the president as the commission continues with its work and prepares to hear further evidence.
“It is the preliminary report that will be the President up to speed with where the commission is thus far,” says spokesperson to the President, Vincent Magwenya.
“They are still to hear more evidence and even from those who have already appeared are going to come and deliver more evidence..”
It’s for this reason, says Magwenya, that the interim report will not be released publicly.
“It would unhelpful to release an incomplete report.”
It would be better, he says, to release the final report, containing conclusive findings.
“More important though, the President also expect the commission to refer matters that are of a criminal nature for criminal prosecution, and that does not have to wait for delivery of the final report.”
And is the President happy about the progress of the inquiry, asks Midday Report presenter Mandy Weiner?
Happy is relative, says Magwenya.
“He’s concerned about the nature of the issues that are coming to the fore, but satisfied that the work of the commission is proceeding.”
