Africa-Press – South-Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa is appealing to all political parties to put up qualified and capable candidates for elections.
Many political parties have started gearing up for the upcoming local government elections, due to be held either late next year or early 2027.
The president, along with some of his Cabinet ministers, was in Rustenburg on Friday to engage the North West government over some of the poor-performing municipalities in the province.
Ramaphosa said local government in the country continues to be below the required standard, which is in part due to the elected political leadership.
“We also want, at a political level, to have people who are really competent, and as we are going to the elections next year, we would like all political parties to deploy people as their candidates who are capable and have the competence to run local government properly, and many political parties will admit that we have not yet reached that level. We therefore need to focus on that. We have two problems here; it’s the elected officials as well as the administration repairing those two will then lead us to have better local government.”
