Ramaphosa Urges Speedy Probes into Tembisa Hospital Issues

Africa-Press – South-Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged law enforcement agencies to expedite investigations into procurement irregularities at Tembisa Hospital.

He’s emphasised that anyone implicated in looting tenders at the medical facility must be arrested and held accountable under the law.

This follows a recent Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report identifying Hangwani Maumela as one of those who allegedly led tender fraud at the hospital.

Last week, the SIU raided his Sandton home in an effort to recover nearly R900 million in assets.

Speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Monday, Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya stressed that the president remains concerned about the procurement scandal.
“It’s worth reminding everybody that it was President Cyril Ramaphosa who signed the proclamation that lifted the lid on the extent of the corruption and criminality in and around the Tembisa Hospital.”

He said law enforcement agencies must also act.

“The president calls on law enforcement agencies to accelerate criminal investigations into the Tembisa Hospital matter in order to expedite the arrests of all those involved without fear or favour, regardless of who they are or are purported to be related to.”
