SA Economy Grows by 0.1% in Q1 2025

Africa-Press – South-Africa. South Africa’s economy grew by a marginal 0.1 percent in the first three months of the year, following an increase of 0.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024.

This was in line with market expectations, starting the year off slow.

Despite growth in agriculture, transport and finance, a continued strain on the mining and manufacturing industries continued to drag on growth.

Stats SA released the latest GDP figures on Tuesday morning.

Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke: “We are saying our economy expanded by 0.1% in the first quarter of 2025. I was listening to commentaries from last night from economists from different areas and they were syaing it might stay at 0, some saying it might go into the negative, some said it might go slightly higher, so there it is, it is siting at 0.1% and the year-on-year is sitting at 0.8%.”
