Africa-Press – South-Africa. On Sunday, 19 October, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued an ‘Orange Level 5’ warning for ‘severe thunderstorms’ in Johannesburg.
Currently, rain continues to pour in most parts of Gauteng and is forecasted to ease up by Tuesday.
“It will continue to rain up until the end of the day [Monday, 20 October] and we’ll be able to see an easing up of rain from tomorrow onwards,” says Tokelo Chiloane, a senior forecaster at the weather service.
She says this level of rain is typical this time of the year, and that ‘localised flooding’ in some areas might be due to the ground being dry for a while, so any rainfall now will ‘take time to be absorbed’.
