Africa-Press – South-Africa. Some crucial players in the political landscape are surprised by the removal of Floyd Shivambu as the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s secretary general.

On Tuesday, the party announced Shivambu would no longer hold the position due to his recent visit to the church of controversial prophet and fugitive Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi.

The organisation says it did not approve the trip and, therefore, his actions were a violation of the MK Party’s constitution.

Shivambu’s demotion comes less than a year after he left the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to join the MK Party.

For some, it comes as no surprise that Shivambu has been removed from his role as secretary general of the MK Party, given that everyone who has held the position has suffered the same fate.

Shivambu was the party’s fourth secretary general since its establishment in December 2023.

The party has now reassigned him to the National Assembly, where they believe he will continue to contribute significantly to the MK Party’s caucus.

African National Congress (ANC) secretary general Fikile Mbalula expressed his shock over Shivambu’s demotion on Twitter.

Mbalula pointed out that MK Party leader Jacob Zuma used Shivambu to draft the party’s constitution, only to later use that same constitution as the basis for his demotion.

Many in the EFF are also beginning to react to Shivambu’s turbulent political career.
