Sibiya Denies Allegations From His Time With CoJ

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Suspended Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has continued his testimony in Parliament, denying more allegations of corruption levelled against him.

While most of Monday focused on Sibiya’s involvement in the disbanding of the political killings task team, on Tuesday, Sibiya was questioned about his previous employment in the City of Johannesburg, where he also faced allegations.

Sibiya is giving evidence before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption on his last day of testimony.

Sibiya tried to rebut most of the evidence presented by evidence leader, Norman Arendse, on day 1 of his testimony on Monday.

This includes his alleged links to controversial businessman, Brown Mogotsi, and murder-accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

On Tuesday, the African National Congress (ANC)’s Thokozile Sokanyile asked Sibiya about why he left the City of Joburg, as the anti-corruption head, under a cloud and accusations of irregular procurement of spy equipment.

“When you were in the City of Johannesburg trying to combat fraud and corruption, there are these allegations.”

Sibiya denied the allegations, saying the person who accused him was the one responsible.

“The person who complained that I procured spying equipment is his wife, who procured spying equipment working for the City of Johannesburg.”

Sibiya also denied that he was dismissed from the City of Joburg, saying he resigned before joining the police.
