Africa-Press – South-Africa. Six people have been killed on the N4 toll road between Middelburg and Emalahleni on Sunday morning.

Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison Vusi Shongwe said the crash occurred when an SUV went out of control, veered off a bridge and landed on the adjacent R35 road.

All six occupants, five men and one woman, died on impact.

Shongwe appealed to drivers to use the road more cautiously.

“We are deeply saddened by this development. We are again appealing to drivers to be more vigilant on the road.

“Those driving long distances are advised to take a break when they feel tired because fatigue is dangerous,” he said.

“The cause of the tragic incident is now the subject of an investigation… it is suspected that driver fatigue may have been the cause,” added department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi.

The MEC sent condolences to the bereaved families.
