Africa-Press – South-Africa. Six people were killed in two separate accidents on the N6 and N3 in the Free State on Friday morning, provincial police said.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said the first accident happened on the N6 in Reddersburg in the direction of Bloemfontein when two minibus taxis collided head-on at around 03:45.

Kareli said five people died on the scene and 11 others were rushed to hospital in Bloemfontein.

“Three passengers and both drivers of the minibus taxis died on the scene. The circumstances that led to the accident are part of an investigation,” Kareli said.

In a separate incident, four sedans and a truck were involved in a motor vehicle pile-up on the N3 at about 07:15.

Kareli said one person died at the scene.

N3 Toll Concession spokesperson Thania Dhoogra said the accident happened in a northerly direction near the Roadside and Reitz Interchange.

Dhoogra said both left lanes on the north- and southbound carriageways were obstructed.

“Traffic is moving past the scene. However, the lane closures combined with the current peak traffic volumes are causing congestion and substantial delays in the area.

“Road users are warned to reduce speed and to approach the area with caution. Emergency services are on the scene, but the obstruction is expected to take quite some time to clear as a result of the severity of the crash,” Dhoogra said.
